76 FREEDOM CAR

Johnson collects two checkered flags
The American Legion - July 22, 2011

Chalk up two more season victories for driver Jerick Johnson and The American Legion/David Law Firm 76 Freedom Car. Johnson captured an eight-lap trophy dash and later collected a checkered flag July 20 in the 40-lap feature at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga.

The latest victories give the Team Johnson Motorsports driver 12 top-10 finishes, 10 top-five races and four victories in 16 starts. Johnson's other victories this year were in a May race at Newport Speedway in Tennessee and at Columbus Ohio Speedway earlier this month.

Johnson's win in the trophy dash earned him the pole position in the Midweek Mayhem feature at the half-mile track. Johnson held off a charging Michael lance to pick up his first victory on the GMP high-banks.

"I knew Lance was coming," Johnson said in victory lane. " I haven't raced here much, so I wanted to give him enough room and race clean, but he was going to have to go around the outside to pass.

"This is a sweet victory. I'd like to thank our sponsors, The American Legion and The David Law Firm and all the other folks that have helped us. I especially want to say how grateful I am to all our veterans and active-duty and reserve military forces that protect our freedoms and let us enjoy what we do here at home."

Johnson's Wednesday victory qualifies him for the November World Crown 300 All-Star race at GMP in November. The next race for the 76 Freedom Car is Aug. 13 at Concord Speedway near Charlotte, N.C.

NY Eagle Scout of Year

Department Commander V. James Troiola, Eagle Scout of the Year Jason D. Maybach and Carl L. Griffith, Eagle Scout Chairman are shown above. The award was presented at Department Convention on Thursday, July 14th.

Legion posts sponsor more than 2,500 Scouting units across the country. This is natural for Legionnaires, who bring their service-learned skills and experiences as veterans to help build character and positive traits in our country's youth. Few other post activities generate more goodwill from the community. The Legion annually honors the Eagle Scout of the Year at the national convention. The winner of the competition receives a $10,000 scholarship, and the three runners-up are each awarded $2,500 scholarships.

WARNING TO VETERANS

Alert from VA -

Forwarded by Kevin Secor, VSO Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

An organization called Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is providing benefit and general information on VA and gathering personal information on veterans. This organization is not affiliated with VA in any way

[Websites with the name "vaservices" immediately after the "www" ARE NOT part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the US Government agency. D o not go to them or if approached or called, do not offer them any information concerning yourself or data on other veterans.
Keep in mind that the real VA website ends in .gov. Also, be aware that the Department of Veterans Affairs does not randomly call veterans, nor does it ask veterans for information which it does not already have--like Social Security Numbers. In particular, if you have not dealt with the VA previously--and in person--and all of a sudden, you receive a call from someone saying they are with the VA or something similar sounding, hang up the phone. Also, do not respond to emails which suggest that they are from the VA. The VA never conducts official business nor asks for personal information by email. Mike]

VAS may be gaining access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the VA name and seal. Our Legal Counsel has request ed that we coordinate with DoD to inform military installations, particularly mobilization sites, of this group and their lack of affiliation or endorsement by VA to provide any services.

In addition, GC requests that if you have any examples of VAS acts that violate chapter 59 of Title 38 United States Code, such as VAS employees assisting veterans in the preparation and presentation of claims for benefits, please pass any additional information to Mr.Daugherty at the address below.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

A 15 year old girl made this.
This puts to shame the output of a number of Hollywood producers
and/or directors.
All I can say is WOW!!!!!!! This film was made by a 15 year old girl.
It is the hottest thing on the internet and on Fox News today.
Lizzie Palmer who put this YouTube program together, is 15 years old.
There have been over 3,000,000 hits as of this morning.
In case you missed it, here it is.
Watch all of it.......and, pass it on!!
