In recent years, the membership has continued to decline each year so it is up to us to get busy and recruit some NEW MEMBERS into our organization.
It is time for some of us "old fogies" to step down and let the younger generation take charge of our great veterans organization.
Get younger members involved in youth programs like Boys and Girls State, oratorical, scouting units, etc.
We are after all a LEGION FAMILY, not just a bunch of old timers sitting around a bar having beers. Get the whole family involved in your Post, Unit and Squadron and we can make our membership grow, reversing the trend of recent years. It is time to take action!
At the 2017 Department Convention in Syracuse, NY the membership awards were presented. Oswego County Membership Chairman Betty Rowlee congratulated the units that achieved 100% or better for 2017.
Installed at the convention was PATRICIA HENNESSEY as Department Auxiliary President for 2017-2018:
Also installed as American Legion Commander for 2017-2018 was U.S. Navy veteran Rena Nessler of Geneva who made American Legion
history on July 22, 2017 when she was elected the first woman commander of The
American Legion Department of New York.
New York Commander Nessler and Auxiliary President Hennessey will be make their visitation to Oswego County on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 with luncheon at Homer Russell Smith Post 587 in Fulton, NY, followed by a guided tour of historic Fort Ontario in Oswego, NY.
Those wishing to attend should get their reservations as soon as possible.
There will be a meet and greet social hour at 5:00 pm at Horning-Fournier Post 418 in Phoenix followed by a roast pork dinner with all the trimmings at 6:00 pm. Cost for the meal is $12 per person.
Each Post has tickets and reservations MUST BE MADE BY SEPTEMBER 26th. Make check payable to "American Legion Post 418" and mail to: Delos Rowlee, 100 Myers Road, Oswego, NY 13126 with unused tickets.
