INCOMING DEPT. CMDR.

LEADING CANDIDATE for

DEPARTMENT COMMANDER

New York American Legion Press Association Director KENNETH GOVERNOR of North Greenbush is the leading candidate for department commander of New York for 2013-2014.

A retired US Army major with nearly 30 years of active and reserve service, Ken had been planning to run for the top state post in 2014-15. Through a regretful and untimely death, Ken's candidacy was moved up a year. It also put a sense of urgency into his campaign. As his Rensselaer County campaign chair, Edward Lupian Jr., put it: "Instead of organizing, planning and raising funds to meet the significant expenses of preparing to become commander over the course of two years, we are forced by necessity to accomplish the same goals in less than half the time."

Ken is a life member of North Greenbush Memorial Post 1489 in Rensselaer County and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He is a past Rensselaer County and Third District Commander.

During the 2011 Department Convention, he was elected to a three-year term as a director of the NY American Legion Press Association. For the past two years as Departmetn PR chair, he coordinated a popular series of public relations workshops at the 2011 and 2012 Mid-Winter Conferences.

Raised in Boston, Mass., Ken is married to the former Sandra Gingeresky of Troy, NY. They have three sons, two daughters, and tow granddaughters.

And now as the campaign gears up, he said, it's all about "Service First - to our service men and women, our veterans, their families, and our communities."
