Past New York State Commander KENNETH F. GOVERNOR passed away on December 24, 2015.
PDC Ken was the 2013-14 department commander who helped usher in a new era of communications and marketing for the Department of New York.
His personal motto was "Service First" and served him well in the Army, where during his last tour he ensured that National Guard units were logistically ready for deployment in the first Gulf War. Concentration on making sure every soldier and every unit had everything they needed to sustain and protect themselves in combat and to be able to decisively engage the enemy and win, Ken and his team were cited for the best prepared units to arrive at the mobilization and embarkation centers. Ken was a retired US Army major with nearly 30 years of active and reserve duty.
In The American Legion, Ken was a life member of North Greenbush Memorial Post 1489 in Rensselaer County and a member of the Sons of The American Legion. He was a past Rensselaer County and Third District Commander.
He was raised in Boston, Mass. and resided in North Greenbush. He left his wife, the former Sandra Gingeresky of Troy, NY three sons and two daughters, and several grandchildren.
He will be sorely missed by all in the American Legion family.
